Be Still...

Working on my doctorate, we were asked to find a verse that will help us on our journey. A verse that we could go to when things got difficult. Mine was Psalm 46:10a - "Be still and know that I am God!" This was and still is my go-to verse in times of trouble. And to be honest, I always say it after taking a large breath, holding my breath for a minute and then exhaling. Why this verse?

1) It reminds us of the power of God. The omnipotent power of God. A God that overcomes death. A God that created us - each of us in our own perfect/imperfect way.

2) It reminds us that God is with us. While we struggle with our human lives and struggle with the Coronavirus, God sometimes seems far away. But God has always been with us. A God who gave his only son will stand with us through the storms. And will stand with us through this crisis.

We are being forced to stop our lives as we know it. Work from home, cancel worship, cancel important events (weddings, graduations, etc) and so much more. But it is a moment where we can take the time to stop, take a deep breath, let it out and "know that I am God!"

Amen!
